COLD: PRESS RELEASE

The Management of BIMMAC SOUNDS is happy to announce the official release of the music video “COLD”, by Olgha Nk. We are excited that barely 48hours from when this video was officially released on YouTube on Saturday 23rd March at 12:00noon, it has already been getting a lot of attention. This is an indication that the time, effort, and resources that the artist, director, and producers have invested in this project have resulted in a song that resonates with people both in terms of message and quality. For this, we are very grateful.

Like the masterpiece work of art that it is, “COLD” will naturally have multiple interpretations from multiple quarters, especially given the challenging times we live in. So, in order to prevent any misrepresentation of this song which is indeed a prayer, we have decided to publish with this press release, the full story of the noble inspiration behind the song and the making of the video.

THE INSPIRATION

Being first of all a Cameroonian, and a person who hails from one of the two English speaking zones of the country, it becomes difficult, no matter where one is based, to not be touched by the crisis that has been affecting our country for the last few years. As the conflict has progressed, the loss of lives and property on all sides has been massive, as well as the loss of jobs, access to education and healthcare, as well as the separation and displacement of families.

The Concept of the song and video titled “COLD”, were created by Olgha Nk to create an awareness to these losses, to inform those unaware of it and to call for a solution. The song tells the story of all victims of the crisis, no matter their origin or affiliation: the old persons who cannot defend themselves; the young ones who want to but can no longer go to school; the business people who cannot longer go about their activities; the average mother and father who just want to take care of their families. These are the ones the song focuses on, asking therefore for the fighting to stop for their sakes. The song chooses to not play the blame game, but to call for a dialogue, for peaceful talks, for a neutral ground to be found.

THE MAKING

With a cast comprising of Valery Nchifor, Akateh Brithnie and Gabsiah Paline, with Anurin Nwunembom directing, “COLD” was shot at Mile 16 Buea, a town which is for the most part deserted due to the constant clashes going on there. The production team almost got caught in crossfire after gunshots were heard close by at a point during the video shoot and the team had to run away, leaving behind most of their equipment.

In addition to this, the cast had to complete shooting with what was left of the video equipment in an open hall in Buea town which they had to eventually sleep in (on the floor and on chairs) given the shoot was wrapped up about 2am and the security situation did not permit safe movement at that hour.

The song “COLD” chooses to stop pointing fingers and assigning blame and instead prays for dialogue and for peace to reign. It chooses to focus on the solution instead of the problem.

OUR THANK YOU

We thank all the fans of Olgha Nk, and all people of goodwill in and out of Cameroon who through their views, comments, and shares, are giving this song the attention it deserves. By so doing, you are joining hands with us to make “COLD” an instrument of peace.

God bless you all.
